Tanzania safari experience

Wildlife safari experience in Tanzania northern circuit

Tanzania genuinely offers the best safari experiences. With remarkable wildlife and iconic landmarks like Mount Kilimanjaro, the Great rift Valley, the Ngorongoro Crater (the largest unflooded intact Volcanic caldera in the world), and perhaps the most well-known national parks in the world, including the Serengeti, Ruaha, Nyerere, and Mikumi, the nation is breathtakingly beautiful and diverse. Overland road journeys can choose to begin in Tanzania’s northern parks, go to the country’s eastern parks, and finish in the coastal region, which includes Sadaani National Park.

If primate trekking is your thing, Tanzania also has a lot to offer in terms of primate viewing, such as chimpanzee tracking in the Mahale Mountains, the Gombe stream in the west on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, or chimpanzee habituation in Ruhondo Island National Park. More than 1.3 million wildebeest and 20,000 zebras are migrating across the vast plains of the Serengeti, closely observed by a wide range of predators.

Best time to go for a self drive safari in Tanzania

In terms of weather, June through March is the ideal time to see in northern Tanzania. The busiest months are late December through February and July and August. Traditionally, the rainy season lasts from April until May. However, overlanders going during that time of year may actually see minimal rain because the seasons are not as distinct as they were a few decades ago. Lower prices, fewer tourists, and excellent wildlife watching in parks like the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater are some benefits of visiting in April. This is a great time because there’s a decent probability that you’ll be able to see the region without other cars around.

The best months to visit the southern parks (Ruaha, Nyerere, Mikumi, Sadaani) are July through October, however June is still an excellent time to go. There is typically little rain in late October and early December, which has little influence on the actual game drive in some reserves.
