Empakai Crater: Trekking Ngorongoro’s Serene Volcanic Marvel

One of Tanzania’s most well-known conservation areas is the Ngorongoro Crater. It has been listed as one of Africa’s seven wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 because it is a true wonder of the continent. Visitors can enjoy the stunning environment and views that this location has to offer.

The Ngorongoro crater is not the only feature in the Ngorongoro conservation area. The neighborhood has a plethora of additional attractions. The park is approximately 8,292 square kilometers in size. When you come to explore this enormous land, you will find a lot. Olduvai Gorge is one of the other attractions to be expected here. The first human remains are thought to have been found here. This is known as the “Cradle of Humankind” by some. The earliest human remains were found here in the 1950s by paleoanthropologists Louis Leakey and his wife Mary Leaky.

There are numerous other attractions in addition to the Crater and the location with the earliest remnants. There are over 25,000 different animal species in the Ngorongoro conservation area. More than 1.7 million wildebeests will migrate onto the Ndutu plains during the rainy seasons in order to give birth. In the same season and region, about 260,000 zebras and roughly 470,000 gazelles will also give birth.

You may observe the rare black rhino and the giant African tusked elephant at the Ngorongoro conservation area. African wild cats, such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, caracals, and servals, can also be found in the region.

The Empakaai Crater in Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Although it’s not as well-known as the Ngorongoro Crater, the Empakai Crater is stunning and well worth a visit. The crater is roughly 8 kilometers in diameter. The entire crater’s floor is filled with lake water. This lake has extremely steep sides and is almost 300 meters deep.

On its western side, the lake is around 3,200 meters above sea level, whereas on its eastern side, it is approximately 2,590 meters. It looks like the water is blue. You can enjoy stunning views of the Oldonyo Lengai Mountain while you’re at this lake. Additionally, you will catch a view of Lake Natron.

You can make reservations in advance with your tour operator to have this facility reserved for you, and there is a camping on the lake’s edge. However, a picnic lunch is also permitted here.
